From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A ceramic is an inorganic, non-metallic solid prepared by the action of heat and subsequent cooling. Ceramic materials may have a crystalline or partly crystalline structure, or may be amorphous (e.g., a glass). Because most common ceramics are crystalline, the definition of ceramic is often restricted to inorganic crystalline materials, as opposed to the non-crystalline glasses. The earliest ceramics were pottery objects made from clay, either by itself or mixed with other materials. Ceramics now include domestic, industrial and building products and art objects. In the 20th century, new ceramic materials were developed for use in advanced ceramic engineering; for example, in semiconductors. The word ceramic comes from the Greek word κεραμικός (keramikos) meaning pottery, which is said to derive from the Indo-European word ker, meaning heat. Ceramic may be used as an adjective describing a material, product or process; or as a singular noun, or, more commonly, as a plural noun, ceramics. From Wikipedia under the

I'm going to stop using my central heating and simply use individual small convectors, radiators, and blowers in each room, as and when needed. Is there any special reason that makes ceramic heaters better? They're certainly expensive. Asked by Huguette - Tue Jul 14 09:13:24 2009 - - 4 Answers - 2 Comments A. Spot (localized) heating can supplement a whole house system, but I would not recommend shutting it all down except in cool weather. You can just lower the thermostat setting to 65F. IF you have a heat pump, the heating most of the time, except at temperatures below around 15 F, is quite efficient compared to any kind of resistance heaters in the room or in the A/C unit. Below that temperature the heat pump is still efficient but has increasingly reduced capacity and needs to have supplemental heating anyway. Looking around, I found a Revlon Ceramic straightening iron that was fairly cheap. Are they any good or should I wait, save up, and buy something better? My hair is mostly straight, just at the end it curls so I don't need a super amazing straightener, just one that will turn the tips from wavy to straight.
