Studio pottery is made by modern artists working alone or in small groups, producing unique items or pottery in small quantities, typically with all stages of manufacture carried out by one individual. Much studio pottery is table ware or cook ware but an increasing number of studio potters produce non-functional or sculptural items. Since the 1980s there has been a distinct trend away from functional pottery (e.g. Grayson Perry) and some studio potters now prefer to call themselves ceramic artists, ceramists or simply artists. Studio pottery is represented by potters all over the world but has strong roots in Britain.

Since the second half of the 20th century ceramics has become more highly valued in the art world. There are now several large exhibitions worldwide, including Collect and Origin (formerly the Chelsea crafts fair) in London, SOFA Chicago and SOFA New York (international expositions of sculpture and applied art) that include ceramics as a major art form. Studio pottery is also sold at high prices, reaching several thousands of pounds for some pieces, in auctions houses such as Bonhams and Sothebys.

What is the castle going to be like at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios?
Q. Like will you just be able to tour it or what? The website wasn't very clear about it. Also, anyone got any ideas about the opening date? I hope it isn't pushed back..

A. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey will be a state-of-the-art unique ride experience located in Hogwarts Castle. Hogwarts has been designed to look 700ft tall and will be richly detailed and authentic to immerse new trainee wizards into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I was there a few a few months ago and the castle is huge, there are a few pics on this website to give you an idea of the scale and detail, its going to be awesome. They are aiming to open Spring 2010, the scaffolding was removed from the castle last week but it could be as late as June, check their website and sign up for email updates.

How long do you think the lines will be at the Harry Potter theme park?
Q. Hey guys, I'm going to the Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios tomorrow, I live like an hour and a half away from it and wanted to go when it wouldn't be too hot (like in August) and when I don't have school or work. I was wondering about how long the lines will be for rides and stuff, I don't mind waiting but I would like to prepare myself if the wait is going to be crazy long. Thanks.
